I just returned from Palm Beach for a few days (a deluge of design) at Palm Beach Design Days feeling invigorated with all the new, fresh design in the world. Perfect timing, because we are putting our last minute touches on our new fabric and wallpaper collection for root cellar designs’ in Spring, 2024 then we will debut the collection on a beautiful table for the annual Lenox Hill Spring Gala to benefit the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House on the Upper East Side of NYC. Designers from around the country come together each donning an extravantly, creative table for this black-tie dinner at Cipriani in NYC. This year’s theme Flights of Fancy marries perfectly well with our table design, A Venetian dinner party channeling Shakespeare’s Othello. Italy is top of mind to me since I am in the throes of planning my daughter’s wedding in Tuscany, Italy. But, I wanted this table to be over the top and I decoupaged masks in our newest wallpaper collections and inspired by the multi-cultural influences in Venice since our collection taps into all parts of the globe and time periods.
But, let me return to the beginning in case you are just popping over here for the first time, and tell you a bit about me. Since 2000, I have been busy creating beautiful interiors for myself and my clients. After graduating from interior design school at Parsons, I fine-tuned my aesthetic, which some have referred to as "sophisticated cottage meets urban living.” A graduate of Castleton University then Parsons School of Design, I worked extensively in the industry- first at Barbara Southerland Interior Decoration & Design before taking on my own clients.
Today, I work as a residential interior designer, freelance writer and author of popular design and lifestyle blog, Nest by Tamara. In 2015, I added textile and product designer to my skill set. I am the co-owner of American-made textile and wallpaper company, root cellar designs. My interiors are a medley of modern furnishings, accessories and eclectic art which I love to combine with antiques and vintage finds, and my interiors are layered, yet well edited.
I am often invited to speak at design industry events to share my expertise on the subjects of interior design, entertaining and the international design markets. Nest by Tamara blog was voted #1 design blog by Modenus for the TOP 100 DESIGN BLOGS. In 2019, I was named a Rising Star of Design for my product designs at root cellar designs.
I joined forces in 2015 with friend and artist Susan Young to create home collection company Root Cellar Designs LLC. We offer ten fabric and wallpaper collections sold exclusively to the design trade in showrooms around the country, and our ready-made pillows and table linens are sold in exclusive home and design shops around the country.
